hello all today i bought a asus GTX970 OC edition and didnt get the fps i would expect from this gpu for example BF4 med settings 70-80fps seen alot of post about fx6300 being a bottleneck for the gtx970 so wondered if switching to intel i5 xxx will increase my fps gains, could you please list a cpu that would not bottleneck the gpu i have around £200 ish and i need a mobo to thanks.

Solution
Your experience does indicate a cpu limitation.

Run this test:
Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

You could also experiment with removing one core. You can do this in the windows msconfig boot advanced options option. set the number of processors to less than you have.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many cores.

If your FPS drops significantly, it is an indicator...

You really shouldn't be getting a bottleneck here, just be sure your drivers are updated and mabey try downgrading them to a more stable version. As with a new CPU, to save money you should stick with an AM3(+) socket

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor (£124.59 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £124.59

Or if you really want to go with team blue (-_-)

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£174.00 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £174.00

£200 is not enough for a i5 + a motherboard (not any decent i5). Try overcloking your fx 6300 if you have a aftermarket cooler that is. 70 - 80 fps isn't that bad its also not good but still more than playable.

Almost hit your budget, well the max end of it.

Another option would be to buy a cool and an fx8320. Would save you some money and would be fairly worth it for BF4. Granted, the best option truly is to upgrade to an intel setup, just listing options.

It doesn't seem like you should be getting a bottleneck, the 6300 is a very good CPU for the price so the jump to a 4460 shouldn't make too too big of a differance

Maybe a bit more, but it is like 170, and it is impossible to find a mobo for 30.

If your FPS drops significantly, it is an indicator that your cpu is the limiting factor, and a cpu upgrade is in order.
The intel haswell cores are some 30% more effective per clock than the FX cores.
What is not known is how well multithreaded YOUR games are. Most like sims, mmo and strategy games are single threaded.
BF4 single player is not particularly cpu intensive. Multiplayer with lots of participants changes that considerably.
4690K with a conservative oc is just about the best gaming cpu available today.
Your budget might buy the cpu, but you will need a Z97 based motherboard to go along with it.
