My neighbor has a desktop running windows xp, it does have a wifi adapter card.Every time I try the wifi wizard I can't connect. Not sure if I'm putting info wrong or their desktop is just to out of date. Please help!

You can't by default connect 2 wifi pc together. They are designed to connect to a router not each other.

You will have to reconfigure the neighbors pc to support adhoc networking to get it to connect. It still is lots harder to get that all setup than just connecting both machines to a common router and then use the standard file sharing abilities to get to data.

No offence, but how is this relevant?

"trying to connect my wifi to my nextdoor neighbor's desktop"

"very time I try the wifi wizard I can't connect"

Why would you think it was NOT relevant. He is trying to connect directly PC to PC which will never work unless you configure the devices so they can do it.

Ok to be clear: you're trying to let your neighbor use your internet connection, and you're trying to get their computer to see your wireless network?

What isn't working? What error messages do you see? Does it just not see your network? Can you see your network from where their computer is (with your phone or another device... tablet, or laptop)?

Here's the basics (without any 'wizard') Ignore the references to PlusNet, start at #1.: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/wireless_broadband/wireless_connect_winxp.shtml

If you don't see any wireless networks, something is wrong with the wireless card (drivers?).
If you see other networks, but not yours, then the signal is too weak and you won't be able to connect unless you move the computer or the router so the signal can reach.

I believe he is trying to connect his neighbor to his WiFi network, not to a PC (which I don't even know what you mean by that). No need to get upset, we're all just trying to help.
