Hi I am not in anyway computer smart, but I do understand a few basics, but with Layman's terms. I have been having issues with my internet going in and out and its kinda been annoying me. So I tried to change it to a better channel and while that seems to be working for now, I read an article online that says to upgrade my firmware to help it along further. So I was reading up on what to do and found an article on this site that says the person did it using a wireless connection and "bricked?" it? Im assuming that was bad. I have changed the channel wirelessly, however read on the article that the firmware should be done so using an ether-net cable.

My router is an ASUS Rt-N12B1 and the current firmware version its running is 2.1.1.1.38. Is there a newer version, if so should I download it and if so where do I find it and how do I go about doing so? Any help would be awesome and thank you for your assistance.

Excelsior!

Yes, I would update as there are at least three updates since that firmware. Download it from ASUS Support HERE.

To update the firmware place the firmware on a known location in your computer that is attached, then open the router configuration page, select advanced settings on the left side of the navigation menu, under administration select firmware upgrade, browse to where you placed the firmware, then click upload. Be sure that the power stays on during the process of updating.
