Yes through the usb dock and the drive was a 2 T book that stopped working although the drive still spins. The windows 7 shows it as a device. I opened disk manager and see it there as unalloted and there are all kinds of options to turn it into another kind of drive ie striped etc

If you want to delete everything and use it as a new storage drive, I would try either DBAN on it or use an elevated command prompt (R click run as admin) and diskpart clean it:
diskpart
list disk
select disk n (where n is the 2TB from the list command)
clean
Then it will show up only in Disk management as a drive that needs to be initialized and formatted.
