Stress test too hot?

Hello fellow overclockers,
I am overclocking my i7 4790K, which is currently running at 4.8Ghz with 1.275 volts. It seems to be pretty stable after 1 hour of OCCT stress testing and some gaming, but I am a bit worried about my core temperatures. CPUTIN was about 45 - 47 degrees celcius, which is not hot at all, but core#1 hit 91 degrees (max) at one point, and the others at about 85-88 degrees. On average the temperatures were mostly fluctuating within 70-80 degrees celcius. Therefore, I seek your guidance on this forum.

I want to know if i should continue my stress testing for multiple hours with these temperatures, to find out if it is stable at all, or if I should reduce the voltage and the frequency to achieve lower temperatures.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your help CompuTronix, I appreciate it.

Currently, my ambient temperature is about 23C. My system specifications is:

  • ASrock Fatal1ty Z97M Killer
    Intel Core i7 4790K
Fractal Design Kelvin S24 (Liquid cooler)
    KFA2 GTX 980 HOF edition
    G.Skill RipjawsX 16GB, 1866 Mhz
    Kingston V300 120GB SSD
    Seagate 1TB HDD
    750W Seasonic M12II EVO (80+ Bronze)
Fractal Design ARC Mini R2 Case

Furthermore, I have gathered some more precise stress test temperatures which I put in an Excel document.(I will list the average core temperatures in the bottom of this comment, because I can not attach files here) Unfortunately, the software I used was not the one you recommended in the guide you made, it was HWiNFO64, but I think it is adequate. The most important part is that the temperatures did not exeed 80 degrees, in average, in the test, which is one of your guidelines.

Now I am going to download Realtemp and run some thermal tests in Prime95 with Small FFT´s to see if I can keep the temperatures in mid 70´s. Otherwise i will have to turn down the frequency and the voltage.

-30 minute OCCT stress test temperatures using HWiNFO:

  • Average Core#0: 73.1C
    Average Core#1: 76.4C
    Average Core#2: 74.2C
    Average Core#3: 68.2C

    Average Core Max: 77.15C
