or should i change the psu to Seasonic S12G Series S12G-550

Yes. nothing I'd change!

you could throw an SSD in there though but it's not a requirement

As someone with both a MSI(Z87 XPower) and Gigabyte board(Z97MX-Gaming 5), I'd stick with the MSI board. The bios is much handier and has better capabilities. I don't hate the Gigabyte board, I just don't like it nearly as much.
