Hello guys!

Im having a weird problem:
Ive been playing on PC for years, while i was using a HDTV as monitor via a HDMI cable.

I was not watching TV on it or anything else, i was just using it for the PC.

Yesterday i switched on my PC and i noticed the desktop was off, the edges of the screen were stretched out just enough to be annoying, and the colors were also off a bit.

So i went into changing resolution, it was in 1024x768 60 HZ originally cause thats how i like it best, but like i said the screen was off this time so i applied 1024x768 setting again.
Heres when the problems started, the screen went blank, and i was waiting for it to come back after 15 seconds but it never did.... i was thinking maybe it changed the HZ to 70 or 75, which i know my TV cant handle, but there is simply no way to change it back.

If i go into safe mode the screen is normal, if i use the VGA cable its all normal, however if i use the HDMI cable its blank screen..... which is odd cause i tested this same HDTV with a Playstation 3 console and the HDMI output worked there finely!

The HDMI cable solution also worked if i used it combined with VGA port to another monitor, so i shared same screen on 2 monitors, but the colors were still off on the HDTV screen

I also tried uninstalling all Nvidia Gforce drivers which seemed to work for 2-5 seconds into windows when it suddenly became all blank again.

I have zero idea what caused this, or how to solve the issue, please help!
Thanks in advance!

You can use your Windows Serial to re-download the Installation files from MS, you do not need a physical copy. Even if it was an OEM installation you are allowed to re-install on the machine it was licensed too.
1) It sounds like an INCORRECT SETTING.

2) Are you using the HDTV section of the video control panel such as 1080p_NTSC@60Hz? (not the monitor setup such as simply 1920x1080).

Alternatives:
a) 720p (if you don't have full HD support)
b) 1080i (I don't support 1080p as my HDTV is pretty old. However it's slightly sharper than 720p as I have 768 lines)

3) 1024x768?
I don't understand the point of this. Also there's no HDTV setting for that resolution which may be your problem. If you have 1024x768 on a 1920x1080 monitor you either get BLACK BARS on the left and right or get the image stretched (you should always set scaling to ASPECT).

4) VGA/Monitor method:
Probably works for you because it's forcing a different resolution to the HDTV.

Guys, ive been using this PC and HDTV like this for years, i mean more than 4-5 years, it had upgrades/changes here and there but never had problems until sudden now.

Win 8.1
Nvidia Geforce 750 GTX OC
8 GB Ram
4GHZ FX 3850

Im using 1024x768 1080P 60HZ because that is most comfortable for my eyes. And its really beautiful.

Right now ofc i can only type here from using VGA cable between the very same HDTV and PC we're talking about, and my head started to hurt like hell after just a few hours so its a no go. All i want, is to have back everything which worked for years without problem until now.

One thing i noticed if i completely uninstall Nvidia Geforce drivers then i can use my HDMI output again, but if i start installing the drivers then when it goes blank for a second during install it stays blank and my HDTV says "no signal" forever.

I tried this with all kinds of resolutions and nothing worked so far, so the problem is definitely not 1024x768, im suspecting it may be the Hz being off, which windows 8.1 doesnt let me change or something software-wise became corrupted, have no idea but its killing me

Ok so HDMI>HDTV=Black Screen.

and

HDMI>HDTV + VGA>MONITOR=Normal

Could you just use a dual screen set-up? Also, afaik, it does not matter what cable you use for the display, the screen will still be the same screen.
Why is HDMI important for you? Do you use it for the audio? DVI is also capable of carrying audio.

im not content with dual screen setup for two reasons : The VGA monitor takes up too much space and i have no other use for it, its not even mine i just borrowed it to test/solve this issue, plus the colors are still off with dual screen, compared to how the colors were YESTERDAY.

And no its not the same, on VGA the screen is ugly, the text is hard to read the game graphics are horrible and the whole screen is like theres a grayscale layer over it.
HDMI is also important for me cause yes im using it for audio as well.
Please dont advise me to not use the setting i had working for years, can we please just focus on what could be the issue that caused it all to go random bad?
I've also seen a couple of posts on other forums about the same issue and that was also on WIN 8.1 guys who had HDTV setups for a while working just experienced blank screen out of the blue, i cannot say if it is indeed related to windows 8.1 just giving a thought about it.
What i am pretty sure by now is that the problem isnt with my HDTV nor with the HDMI cable since the Playstation 3 works with it like before so in a nutshell what i know so far :

-HDTV HDMI goes "no signal" during driver install
-HDTV HDMI went "no signal" after experiencing weird stretched out screen all of a sudden with color being off
-HDTV HDMI stays "no signal" while driver is installed, any resolution
-HDTV HDMI works in windows "safe mode" 1024x768 64HZ only option
-HDTV works with VGA, or shared screen VGA/HDMI but on HDMI the screen is not acting normal, colors and text still off, slight vibration probably Hz being off
-HDTV HDMI works with console normally, just not with the PC
-HDTV HDMI sound can still be heard while the TV has "no signal" which is weird

I am asking questions to determine a possible remedy. Were there any recent driver updates for you? Do you have the original driver disk you can try installing from instead of online? (because you said it works until you install drivers again)

At this point, if that doesn't work, I'd ask you to test your GPU in another machine.

DVI is a perfectly viable alternative with identical results, you can get dvi>hdmi cables. Your VGA needs to be configured, it can look good with proper settings and calibration.

What is the manufacturer of your card? Not Nvidia. Asus or MSI or EVGA or whoever. You might be better off asking them, as a GTX750 should still be under warranty.

Yes its still under warranty and its an Asus, but im living in Hungary and the shop i got this from is pretty far away so i cannot just travel with my PC there any day, might as well try to find a solution before judging my GPU faulty and bringing it to them.
I tried the DVI/HDMI cable and its the same result as HDMI alone so is this
gonna be a random GPU breakdown ?
BTW the VGA output works on this very same card, and so does the HDMI, if i have another monitor plugged in the VGA output and using BOTH of them, but as soon as i want to switch to 1 screen it goes "no signal" again.

Im now going to try to install the drivers from the original CD and update this post to tell if it worked but keep in mind
this problem with the screen/display/refresh rate started on its own, randomly, i didnt do anything manually to cause this, except trying to fix an all-of-a-sudden stretched display screen with setting the resolution as it was before.

An update here:

I asked for my friend's help in the matter, he brought his HDTV and brought another DVI cable as well, and his PC as well.

-If i connect his HDTV to my GPU it works fine
-If i connect my HDTV to his GPU it also works fine

If i connect my OWN HDTV to my OWN GPU it doesnt work, blank screen.

At this rate i cant even send the GPU back with warranty, cause it is not faulty.

But neither my TV has any fault

What im suspecting now is that windows 8.1 really screwed something up, and im thinking it set the screen refresh rate to an abnormal number, and for some reason it sends my TV off signal

Yes I think you are now starting to deal with a very strange scenario. If it was me I would backup my data and do a re-install, as it often fixes issues. In fact I tend to re-install my OS every 6-12months anyway depending if it feels cluttered or not. Sorry I/we could not help more.

Well thanks anyways
I cannot reinstall my OS unfortunately, i do not own a physical copy of it, they just installed it for me in the PC shop.
Looks like ive got 2 choices from here, allowing windows updates to see if they accidentally fix it for me, or buy a new HDTV.

Ive been researching this issue though and found out this is a very common problem with HDTV and PC bonds which roots back to at least 3 years, nobody ever found a solution to it except for one person who had an ATI card, he was able to fix this by setting the pixel format in CCC.
Unfortunately im having Nvidia so i guess i really have to spend $$$
