I'm having a hard time configuring my pc to run 16gb with this asus board. I'm using this kit.

PNY - 2-Pack 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 Desktop Memory Kit

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-2-pack-8gb-pc3-12800-ddr3-desktop-memory-kit/1397026.p?id=1219051117603&skuId=1397026

After some reading and research, I was able to update the bios (1504) and have the system detecting the full 16 gigs and disincentive correct speed (1600mhz) in the bios.

Unfortunately, the system will not load Windows 7 64 pro - it automatically restarts whenever it hits the Windows logo.

I have read a few threads that mention that 8 gb Simms are not supported, but I couldn't find any confirmation on the ASUS site. I also wasn't sure if this was actually a limitation as the bios seems to find a s recognize the ram without issue.

Any ideas?

Processor is Core i3-540 3.06GHz LGA1156

Thanks for the replies, guys. This has been a bit of a nightmare. Talking to ASUS, they told me that not only would this RAM not work but that there are only 4 kit options available to me with this CPU and they highest one topped out at 6 GB total - not what I really wanted to hear. Though to be honest, I'm not sure how accurate their information is - the Corsair RAM in there now shouldn't work either, but it has worked fine for 5 years.

I ended up contacting CPU Solutions for their input as they configured the original system. I'm curious what they will come back with. In the meantime, I will check out memorystock.com.

You should buy a high end cpu instead of 16 gb ram , and buy that ram later.. i have an i7 3770k with 16gb 1333mhz g skill f3 and it's a blast! :)
