I have a new build with an Asus Maximus Hero VII, MSI Limited Edition GEForce GTX 970. Build works great. However I have 1 major problem. The system is running off of the Integrated Intel graphics chip on the MOBO, and not using the NVIDIA card. I've updated the BIOS to the latest version. I've uninstalled the GPU, and cleared the CMOS while the card was out. I've gone into the BIOS and changed the Graphics configuration to PCI-E. I've installed the GPU in a different PCI-E. There is power to the GPU card because the MIS emblem is illuminated. However the fans are not spinning. Any ideas. This is getting frustrating.

Solution

That's exacly what you're missing.

That graphics card requires that both PCI-E power cables be connected.

I have the 6pin with an additional 2 pin connected to the GPU from the PSU. The PSU is a Seasonic 860XP. All cables appear to be connected. As mentioned there does seem to be power to the GPU. The logo on the GPU is lit up.

Do you have both the 6-pin and 8-pin (a.k.a. (6+2)-pin) PCI-E power cables connected from the PSU to the graphics card?

No. I only have 1 cable connected which is the 6 and 2 pin. There is another slot right beside this on the GPU which is a 6 pin. But I do not have anything plugged into that slot. Is that what I'm missing??
