Is it possible to not put a fan controller in the harddrive slot and use it as a desktop one?

I want to get the NZXT Sentry 3, but I don't want to put it in my computer because it's very inconvenient to have to bend down every time in order to change a speed or something.

Is there a DIY I can do to not put it in the drive cage slot? Can I put it on my desk?

Solution
Use extension cables, this should allow you to make them to a custom length without all the warranty issue.

Motherboard control may be an option if you do not need to control too many fans.

Don't I just need a long wire?

I actually considered motherboard controller. But I have a question. Do the fans have to be plugged into 4pin fan connectors on the motherboard in order to be controller? Or will 3 pin work too? Because I only have 1 4pin connector
