If I am using an FX-6300 with a stock cooler will I be able to use OC Genie II without damaging my CPU? Or should I get a better cooler?

Solution

You should be able to squeeze a little bit of an overclock out, yes. However, a better cooler would definitely increase your overclocking potential and the 6300 has quite a bit. I would go with the Hyper 212 Evo from Cooler Master. It's reliable, multi-platform compatible, trusted and used by thousands (probably the most popular cooler currently), has tons of support thanks to the many users, much more quiet, a better cooling solution(and creates great airflow), and is relatively cheap. The cooler's value for the price is nearly unmatched for overclocking. I would recommend the cooler over a...

You should get a new cooler for OC'ing. The stock cooler is only designed for 95W TDP. Watch your core temps. If it gets above 65C, stop.
Btw, you will do better just increasing the CPU clock multiplier on your own than using OC Genie.

I would recommend the cooler over a stock cooler even if you weren't looking to overclock, simply because of the number of people who use it that can give you personal experience advice and its great overclocking ability at such a low price. I am currently using it on my FX 8320 and have a stable overclock from 3.5 Ghz to 4.4 Ghz (nearly a full GHz bump, yes I'm happy with it) and that's with me barely touching the settings. I highly recommend this cooler. For an install guide, look here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO4yokgcOY4&ab_channel=TechUploaded ) and for the cooler itself look here ( http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2 ) I hope this helped, this cooler should be adequate and a great performer, although a hundred dollar water cooler may yield better cooling results and a higher overclock, none of them have a value as great as this cooler, and if you went with the 6300 then you must have value in mind. Let me know if you have any question or comments, I'm happy to help!!! :)
