Can't transfer Google Chrome passwords!

I have just gotten a new hard drive and the only web browser I use is Google Chrome. I have Windows 8.1 on both drives.

I am setting up Chrome on the new hard drive.. I transferred the bookmarks (html file) with absolutely no problem. But there's about 50 sites I use that need a login and password, and I have gotten used to Chrome automatically entering that data for me. So, I need these logins/passwords on Chrome in my new hard drive. Problem, as you likely guessed, is that I can't find a way to carry them over!

I first tried going into users////appdata and copying the "LoginData" and "LoginData-journal" files. I transferred those into the same exact directory on the other hard drive, which replaced the files. I restarted the computer, still, this does *not* work! The next thing I tried was logging into my Google account (on the new hard drive) and this doesn't work either. Although I rarely ever even use my Google account, so it goes without saying no passwords or even bookmarks are saved to it.

There *has* to be a way to do this! I'm shocked that a company known for efficent, simple-to-use software would make something like this SO aggravating! It is a MAJOR design flaw. (In fact the only way to sync Chrome bookmarks with Google Account bookmarks is to do it manually ONE by ONE... so yeah, nice job, guys!)

Anyone? I'm at my wits end!!

Remember, you should NEVER manually copy LoginData files to a new system. I did that once, and all my passwords were erased (overwritten with empty values), because that file is encrypted to your Windows profile and cannot be read from any other system (at least with local Windows profiles, but probably with live profiles too).

I hope you have a copy of LoginData files on the old drive from before you tried to sync? Keep it close just in case.

I'm strongly suggesting you to use your Google account with Chrome - it's the best way to auto-sync bookmarks and other important data, and probably the only way to copy passwords to a new system.

You should do this:

On the new drive:

    ■ Sign OUT of your account in Chrome (this is very important, you don't need your passwords to be erased)
    ■ Exit Chrome
    ■ Rename the Default folder (C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default)

On the old drive:

    ■ Open Chrome
    ■ Go to Settings - Advanced - Manage saved passwords.
All you passwords still there? I mean password values. Logins should be still there in any case.

A) If not - it probably means you signed in to your Chrome account on the old drive and password became overwritten with empty ones from the new drive when it was synced.

    ■ exit Chrome and back up your Default folder just in case
    ■ open Chrome and sign out of your account in Chrome
    ■ exit Chrome and then overwrite LoginData files in the Default profile with backed up ones - it should bring passwords back.

B) If passwords are there - good

    ■ exit Chrome and back up your Default folder just in case
    ■ open Chrome and sign in to your Chrome account
    ■ go to Settings - Sign In - Advanced sync settings... and ensure that Passwords (and Bookmarks) are selected there. Then wait a couple of minutes for it to sync.
    ■ go to https://www.google.com/settings/chrome/sync The number of synced passwords (and bookmarks) will be shown. If it is correct - then your passwords (and bookmarks) were copied to the "cloud" - and should be available on any other Chrome you'll sign in from in the future (including Chrome on Android and iOS).

On the new drive again:

    ■ Open Chrome
    ■ Sign in to your Chrome account.
Is it correct? It should be.
    ■ Go to Settings - Advanced - Manage saved passwords. Passwords should be there
    ■ Check if bookmarks are there too.

In fact the only way to sync Chrome bookmarks with Google Account bookmarks is to do it manually ONE by ONE...
I don't think it's true. You can download Google Bookmarks html file here http://www.google.com/bookmarks/bookmarks.html and then import it in Chrome.
