avoid gtx 970's in general. i am a fan of the gtx X70 series but nvidia dropped the ball and the 3.5gb .5gb frame buffer is a train wreck...even at 1080p with enough filtering and ultra high settings if u bust that 3.5gb frame buffer and use the other .5gb your system will slow way down.
I agree, if i was gonna SLi it would be to new EVGA GTX 960 over the 970's. SLi isnt needed for a single monitor 1080p 60hz gaming. A single GTX980 is more then enough for anything within the next 3+ years on max with DX12 when its out. If you plan on doing Multi-Monitor gaming then go with SLi if not just do a single card like i did. I game on a 27' at 1080p on 60hz myself and my GTX 960 runs cool with Shadow of Mordor maxed.
