Hi,

I have a simple question. I'm currently building a second PC, but it's taking its time. I've a purchased a second Windows 8.1 license key for use on that machine when it's eventually built.

However, I wondered if it was possible to install a second Windows 8.1 on a completely separate ssd, but on my current computer. The reason I want to do this is because I want to install many of my programs from scratch on the new ssd/OS. I know I can copy everything over from the current ssd to the new one, but that would bring along all the problems the different programs have developed, which which can't be repaired by uninstalling and reinstalling. I know this because I've tried.

I'd prefer not to go through the hassle of doing a clean install of Windows on the current ssd if possible.

Appreciate any feedback!

Chris

PS, I should add that I have two licenses for the two Windows versions

how about disabling Secure Boot in the BIOS, taking out the old drive, connecting the new drive, installing OS and Programs on the new drive, shut down the system, connect the old drive, and then use the boot menu to select which drive to boot off.

Thanks Emerald, brilliant idea. I'd got as far (in my mind) as removing the old drive and installing Windows 8.1 on a new one, and then simply exchanging drives when the computer was off. But your solution does the whole trick. I'm planning on giving it a go on Saturday, so I'll let you know how it goes. I've got an Asus P8Z77-V PRO mother board, and am used to doing (simple) things in the bios. Looking forward to Saturday.

regards,
Chris
