Hello, this is a first time installing a SSD, I know how to install it and everything but I was wondering if there is something I need to enable in bios to make sure its configured properly? Any sort of help or advice would be greatly apperiated. Thanks.

Solution
You would not have to format the drive. Just delete anything (windows and program files off of the drive). Only the ssd first or it will install part of the boot record on the hdd causing you issues down the road. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, so should only keep the SSD in there first, wouldn't I need to reformat the old harddrive? (its just a standard 500GB harddrive 7200rpm) I definitely want to make my SSD the primary drive for my OS.

One more question for the ACHI set up I am not entirely sure which setting I need to flip since I see in in several locations: http://imgur.com/h5iZEp0,kSOPw2C#1
image in the link shows my settings.
I am using a motherboard Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
