Ok so i have an ssd and a hard drive. Windows 8 is inatalled on the ssd. I was renaming a file i downloaded on the steam workshop, then pressed enter and suddenly everything was deleted off my pc. I could not load anything and all thats still on my pc is steam everything else is deleted. I have lost everything from my documents folder, downloads, and all the stuff on the start button. I dont even have ststem restore on the folder on the strart menu. Everything has gone. On my hd i have 2 files which is my legit copy of photoshop but only the folder and some install files, rebooted and still loaded windows and steam was still opening up. Tried clicking google chrome and ie icons but nothing and told me they was not installed. Seems all files deleted on my hd but on my ssd still has 80gb of data used. Windows cant repair the problem and i cant re install after i deleted it off my ssd because its not gpt tupe or something? Any help please been trying to sort it for a couple hours now.. Thank you.

I have the OS on the SSD and store my files on the HDD but I have usual stuff like my documents, pictures, downloads all on my SSD.

I tried downloading a file from steam workshop which was for football manager 2015 game. I tried to re-name the file and then i clicked enter, everything messed up then.

I have come to the conclusion I have lost everything so I am reinstalling windows 8 now as I got passed the GPT file type error.. I just no idea how I lost all these files by doing a thing of renaming a file and both hard drives are working ok? Got to have been something else causing the deletions? They wouldn't boot if they wasn't faulty, right?

GPT is not a file type it is a partition format. You can have MBR or GPT. Windows 7 and 8 support GPT with 8 defaulting to GPT.

If everything disappeared it sounds like some malware may have been in that steam workshop download, or something in it was coded poorly and tried messing with your partitions during the install.

Yes partition format, sorry. But maybe but I thought all files on steam are safe to download? Maybe renaming it wasn't allowed in this circumstance. I'll see how the computer does tonight before re installing games and stuff.. Seems to be installing windows updates with no problems.
