Hey guys, new to the forums and think you may be the ones to help. Just a bit ago I got a BSOD. The error was caused by ntoskrnl.exe. I've never experienced a BSOD before with this particular file, so I was wondering if anyone would know what the cause was. I've dropped the .dmp file into my Dropbox which can be accessed here: Dropbox .dmp file

Any help would be much appreciated!

Solution
Run a chkdsk on the hard drive

Go to start type 'cmd', when you see the command prompt option appear right click on it to run as administrator, once in type 'CHKDSK /F/R' That will check the drive, fix and repair any bad sectors, the BSOD you describe is related to hard drive issues.

On another note now would be a good time to back up files.

I did that, and here is what turned up... Everything looks normal to me.

It's not the first one I've had, no. I did get one about a month ago with the same .exe but also readyboot.sys. All my research turned up as a bad SSD, so I had it RMA'd. I do have a secondary spindle drive, so I'm wondering if that would be it. Is there anyway to see what drive the .exe crashed on? In the meantime, I'll run passmark on both.

UPDATE:

Ran passmark. Here's the S.M.A.R.T. info:

It would have happened on the drive with windows on as NTOSKRNL is part of the operating system, it could be a connection issue, if it happens again, try switching the data and/or cable with another SATA maybe borrow one from a dvd drive
