As above really....running the shut down command does get the OS to shut down, but lights and fans remain on.

*It definitely shuts down and is not in standby, as clicking the mouse etc does nothing.
*I disabled the USB power setting as per another thread.
* The CPU is at 28oC, the GPU at 29oC...so fans can't be remaining on because the system is too hot.
*Under the BIOS, the fans are set at automatic with a target temp of 50oC.
* No firewire ports on the motherboard.

What else should I look in to?

Intel Core i5
ACPI x64
8GB Corsair RAM in one module
AMD Radeon R9
In an Antec Three Hundred and Two Case
Windows 7 SP1

I had a similar issue, through the BIOS there are power saving option that define how much power the system will be using when shut down. In other words, you can make everything turn off when shut down through the BIOS, just specify your mobo.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys.

The Mobo is an ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP.

What would be the safest settings to put? I've never come across a BIOS interface like this one...

On another note, the power plug for the mobo doesn't click in properly, although it is as flush as possible. Reading some reviews on Amazon, this seems to be common. I don't suppose this could be causing the problem?

Go to the BIOS, advanced, south bridge. Make sure deep sleep is enabled for s5, and try to set goodnight LED to off. Also go to ACPI configuration under advanced and make sure all the "power on" are disabled, besides RTC Alarm which should be set to OS. And don't forget to save changes when you exit the BIOS.

Deep sleep was already enabled, I disabled goodnight LED and all power on except RTC alarm were already disabled. I did save before exiting, booted up, shut down again...unfortunately the lights and fans are still on....

Thank you for the links. The CMOS battery is inconveniently hidden by the graphics card; I will try to look into this during the week. Will continuing to use the power button to shut down after windows has shut down harm the system?
