We have a ruggedized laptop that has internal internet. The connection works fine and has a strong signal.

I have installed 2 different hotspot software, latest being Connectify. I was not able to get a device to see the hotspot but I am able to connect other devices, such as my phone.

The message that I get from Connectify's help is this:

What does the 5GHz mode warning mean?

Connectify Hotspot is using the same Wi-Fi band and channel that your wireless access point uses. Your PC acquires a connection via Wi-Fi, and if you share over the same device you use the same band and channel.

The problem is when the Internet connection is made via 802.11a or 802.11n at 5.8GHz. While Connectify Hotspot will share its connection perfectly on 5.8GHz, some devices cannot connect on 5GHz channels. This means your Hotspot will not show up for devices that can’t see 5GHz networks and may appear to not be working. If you see a “5GHz Warning” Connectify Hotspot has detected that you are using a 5GHz channel.

It is possible to have a 5GHz hotspot, but unfortunately, Connectify does not have the ability to control between 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The channel of the Hotspot is determined by the channel of the network that the adapter is currently connected to as well as your network adapter (if it supports 5GHz). If you are connected to a 5GHz network, then you will get a 5GHz hotspot. The same would also be true for a 2.4GHz hotspot.

Now, some cards might have an option that allows you to change between 2.4Ghz and 5GHz band. If you have those options you can try just having the 5Ghz enabled. You should try checking in the Device Manager under the Advanced Properties of your adapter for these options.

I'm assuming from the above that the device I am trying to connect with is not capable of connection to a 5ghz connection. I have emailed the manufacturer to find out.

With this being said, what is the correlation between a wifi connection of 2.4/5 ghz and cellular 4G and 5G (Verizon in this case)?

If I am connected via 5G on my cell is my wifi now 5 ghz? Likewise, if I am on 3g with my cell, am I on 2.4 ghz on my wifi?

I know it said that it was a network adapter setting but I was wondering if the two above were related.

Thanks in advanced!

They aren't. Your hotspot is via WiFi and the internet is coming in via the cellular modem, basically your computer is acting as the router. I would be surprised if your wireless card in the laptop only supported 5Ghz, so your software must only be able to bridge one connection at a time, or you need to run two hotspots to service both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz devices. (For example my router has two completely independent networks, one at 2.4Ghz and one at 5Ghz)
