I've been working on this build for some time now, and still would like some advice on what I have.
Approximate Purchase Date: End of summer, likely.

Budget Range: 1700 before rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Web browsing/school work; work; gaming

Parts Not Required: Possibly monitor, but it is shit. If absolutely needed, I could test it with Ubuntu.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Do not care at all, would be willing to buy from private dealers for better price/quality.

Country: US

Parts list: above

Overclocking: Likely to an extent

SLI or Crossfire: In the future, maybe

Monitor Resolution: listed in parts list and up, think it's 1920 by 1080

Additional Comments: Need to keep cool, relatively. Case needs to look minimalist, but would like a little flair. Something like the Viper GX mid case would be about my max for flair.
Want to play games at pretty high settings, hopefully max, and do it for some time. BUT NOT WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK.

Goes over with $100 but you are getting more performance with two 970's in sli and the h100i is a much better cooler

I was thinking of doing the H100, so I like that idea. But putting the 2 970s in SLI? That bumps the price up a lot. Can I get one 970, and see if that's enough performance for me? If not, or if it starts to bog down with time, I can toss another 970 in later, can't I?

Sure! Go ahead..
But make sure it's the same GPU you are puttin in sli with

I would settle for this build, an explanation will follow below: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kctqgs

4690K is an extremely flexible CPU for the price and is capable of sumptuous performance. Pair that with a Z97 board, especially the Asus one I chose, and the extent of the overclocking is only limited by the cooling. I chose the best cooler around to do the 4690K justice, and on top of that it looks amazing.

Regarding RAM 8GB is not only adequate but preferable when gaming. Good quality, well made RAM which takes advantage of dual-channel (2*XGB) will give you good performance. Now the graphics card. Many will argue that SLI 970 is better than single 980, I would even argue that sometimes and benchmarks shows that it is true. However, for 1080p gaming the 980 is a perfect candidate and will deliver amazing performance. As a benefit, this leaves the option open for 980 SLI in the future, which is extremely powerful. So I would recommend single 980 for now.

As for storage I chose a quality HHD and a quality SSD. Not much else to be said.

The PSU is of the highest quality, as it ought to be. It will be able to power a SLI 980 in the future, should it prove to be the case. However, the quality is the most important and this PSU is worth every single dollar. The case is neat and looks elegant and the monitor is the same as Mr. @Elemential, it is a decent monitor for 1080p gaming.

edit:

saw I was a bit late, elemential already helped, thought I might as well post my answer though.

No, no. I don't know why it marked the first answer as the solution, I'm still looking for opinions. That build seems pretty good, but there arn't any peripherals on it. That tacks on another 100 dollars or so. If I could get a 980 for 400$, instead of that 500$ SC model, I'd probably get it. I'll have to look into that.

Edit: I'm still a little new here, so if someone knows how to "unsolve" this thread, tell me. I'd also like to know how to quote, can't find out how.

Two ways: quotemsg=name] enter quote here [/quotemsg] - Just add this [ before "quotemsg".

Better option: there is a "reply" on the button right which says: "Reply to Whateverworks_19" for example. There is also a multiquote button.
