This is my first attempt with the pcpartpicker website and I have come up with this. Please let me know what I don't need or am missing.

I also wasn't sure if cases come with any case fans, did I over do it with the fans?

Do I really need a cpu cooler? I was under the impression the AMD cards will produce more heat inside the case.

Where should I be saving $ and where should I spending more $?

The case comes with front and rear 120mm fans. There are 5 fan mounts in the case so 3 you can populate. I would say there is nothing bad about adding more fans except that they will make more noise. However you will want them if you plan to overclock.

The AMD processor comes with a cooler, but you can't go wrong with the 212 EVO if you plan to overclock. If you do not then the factory cooler is fine.

I think this sounds like a solid build.

Is this because of the cpu or the gpu, or both? I currently play GW2, Skyrim, Civilization V. I do not spend allot of my game time in a "zerg" like state if that makes any difference with the cpu as I've heard that intel cpu's are better for MMOs. If I go with a GeForce card will I be able to get a lower wattage psu or is it best to get a 750w for future needs?

I think Nvidia recommends at least a 430W PSU for a GTX 970. So, a 500W to 600W would be good. The new GTX 900 series GPU's are more energy efficient and use less power and are a lot faster, a large improvement over the previous GTX series. For peace of mind I would get the 750W psu. You might want to SLI another card later on?

Just some advise, when your ready to build, check the main components before installing them into the tower. put the cpu in the slot, install the ram, and connect a storage device, and power it on. just to make sure everything works before finding out after finishing the installation.

Both.

Intel CPUs are better in all game types. AMD is about 5 years behind.

I was planning on keeping our older computer but since we have limited space my gaming comp will also have to be the family comp. I would like to salvage my case, hard drive, cd drive, etc.

As far as I know I shouldn't have any problems with my hard drive, cd drive, etc.

Will the build below work with my case? I get 11.5" from the back of the case to the front where the video card would go. Not sure about power supply issues.
This is my case, its a NZXT Gamma gaming case.

I wanted to thank you all at Tomshardware for the help with my computer build. I found allot of valuable information here. I do have my build put together now and it is all up and running now. I'm very happy with how it is working and am happy with the performance I'm getting in Guild wars 2, Skyrim, and my other games.

I did have to skimp on a few things due to upcoming life changes, we have a new kid on the way so I decided not to spend as much at this time. I did make a few mistakes as I ordered the wrong ram. As I was double and triple checking the support list on MSI I got the 1333 ram mixed up with a faster set that I was looking for. I also went overkill on the PSU and wish I had a modular one, I had ordered my new psu and gpu ahead of the other parts just to get my old comp running and got a bigger psu thinking I might sli or something in the future. The case did allow me to hide all my extra cables in the back behind the mobo so the only thing visable from the front is the caples coming through the grommets and then terminating in the appropriate locations. The USB 3 was a little difficult though and I was not able to get it through the rubber grommets and turn as sharp as it would have needed so it comes in behind the hardrive bays and then slides into the mobo.

Prices have already changed I've noticed. I think all together I have $950 into the build, some items that were on sale are not longer on sale, etc.
