Dual channel RAM

My motherboard (MSI H81M-P33) has two RAM slots. I've been reading up on dual channel RAM and it seems you have to use spaced slots. As in a 4 slot mother board, you would pair slot 1 and 3 and 2 and 4. Might be a silly question, but is it possible to dual channel 8GB on my motherboard since it doesn't have that type of memory set up, or would it just be classified as a "single" 8GB of RAM? Thanks in advance!

Solution
if you populate both of the ram slots in the motherboard, you will get dual channel operation, altho, if you are building a new PC with that motherboard, then you might want to buy just a single stick of ram (8GB), so you will have the option to add another stick to get dual channel and 16GB in the future. if you really want dual channel, and dont care about upgrading in the future, then a 2x4GB kit will be just fine.
