My old pc:
i5 3570k oc to 4.3ghz
16gb vengeance ram
same msi gtx 970 (100me, if that matters)
1tb hdd
120gb ssd samsung 850 pro
windows 7 64 pro
850w xfx pro

New PC:
i7 4790k not oc (yet)
same 970
same 120 ssd
new MSi z97 Gaming 7 motherboard.
new crucial 8gb Elite
same OS
new evga 750w g1 gold

Everything ran fine in my old computer until i began experiencing issues - blue screens and random freeze-to-shutdown.
I thought it was my new 970 so I replaced it with my old msi gtx 660 OC...but that wasn't the case as the issues persisted.
I tested everything else to make sure...no luck.
Monitored all temps to see what was going down and nothing was close to overheating.

Bought a new setup and am using my 970 in it currently but am having problems with the performance vs my old computer
I've been getting less frames in CS:GO and h1z1 (all i have right now since its a new build)
I've tried multiple graphics drivers to see if the new ones were interfering, thats not it.
I've monitored my temps and processes and nothing is over the top.
I've fenagled with the nvidia control panel and set performance to high and all that jazz - nada.
CPU doesnt go 100%...maybe not even 80% even with multi core rendering and thread usage set to 8.
Ram is never above 6gb usage.
Could it be the z97? My bios?

I used to get about 270-370 fps in CS:GO and h1z1 used to run flawlessly on my old computer...now I'm getting 140-230 fps in CS:GO and h1z1 is really choppy on the new build.

144hz moniitor. (yes i changed the setting to comply with the 144hz)

Sorry this is so long, I'm trying to cover everything. This problem is getting to my head pretty bad.

Solution
ensure windows power plan is set to high performance. also your gpu also has the following modes. make sure you have set OC mode or at least Gaming

OC Mode
Maximum Performance through higher clock speeds and increased fan performance

Gaming Mode (Default)
The best balance between in-game performance and thermal

Silent Mode
The best environment for minimal fan noise

if the issue still persists i would test with xfx psu.

1) Yeah I have done a clean windows install.
2) The xfx had may too many wires lingering and i wanted a cleaner look haha, i DO still have it though, maybe one day when im not lazy i'll put that in this build.
3) The temps when not in game are around 32-40C for the cpu, 55-58C for the gpu, everything in the mobo doesn't exceed 40C (ssd is 25C if that matters at all...)

In game is max 50C for cpu, max 62C for gpu, max 46 for everything in my mobo.

Okay, I just tested my 16gb vengeance now vs the 8gb crucial elite i had in initially and its a huge change - pretty sure i fixed it. The ram was never pushing near max...maybe at most 4-5gb was being used, so i dont know why my vengeance would do this. Positive the crucial was installed correctly...BUT I appreciate all of the help you offered and it was great advice. Regardless of this "fix", i forgot to test out the OC/Gaming/Silent modes the gaming app offers and will try them anyway to get an even larger performance boost. Thanks a ton, Chris!

your ram couldnt have been installed incorreclty! you wouldnt even have a succesful post or deal with bsod. online gaming does benefit from higher ram count and since you already have the 16gb of your first build i cant find a reason keeping the 8gb.!(although still enough)! if you happent to deal with any bsod or abnormal behavior (as you did mention with your first build and ram) try memtest with each ram stick! you are welcome!
