Hard Drives and Optical Drive Randomly Disappearing

So, my PC has had this problem for months now. And I still can't seem to figure it out. It's driving me crazy.

I currently have 3 HDDs (All SATA; 1 for OS, 2 for storage) and 1 Optical Drive (connected by some ribbon cable I forgot the name of) installed in my computer. My drives will randomly disappear from "My Computer" and become unusable. Even when I open diskmgmt.msc, the drive won't be listed after it disappears. The only way to use the missing drive again is to restart the computer. So far, I've only seen the drive disappear when I am accessing it. This happens to my optical drive, as well. I've checked all the HDDs through Speccy and CrystalDiskInfo and made sure all the connections in the tower are all firmly connected. I am running WIndows 8 Pro 64-bit.

I would provide more information, but I don't know where to begin. Anyone that can help me solve this would be extremely helpful to me, as this issue is VERY annoying. I can provide any extra information anyone needs to help solve this problem. Thanks in advance!

Firmly connected cable is all well and good but when you have a bad cable it's still an issue.
If it's a SATA cable get some new ones for the drives that keep dissapearing.
If it's IDE then you might want to consider some drive upgrades.

Either way it sounds like you need to test it all again with new cables.

How can it be an issue with the cables? The only way that makes sense is if one bad cable can cause all the drives to do this, including my optical drive. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe it works that way.

Are all HDDs the same brand, same model?

Do you see any UDMA CRC Errors in CrystalDiskInfo?

If your drives can be jumpered for reduced SATA link rates, you might like to try this, if only for troubleshooting reasons. For example, WD drives have an OPT1 jumper.

Have you measured the PSU voltages, in particular the +5V and +12V?

My OS is on a WD 250GB HDD, and then I have a 1TB WD Green, and a 500GB WD for Storage. None of them have any jumpers installed on them. No errors on CrystalDiskInfo. and no, I haven't measure the voltages on any of them. Sorry so long for the response, but I assumed no one would answer unless I bumped the thread again.
