Dual 2680v3 vs Two i7 5960x Rendering performance

Hello geeks,

firstly forgive my bad english

This shouldbe old topic but i could'nt find any discussion regarding

Sole purpose: rendering animation.
I need two i7s or a dual xeon setup for rendering need.

considering performance(cpu rendering), the dual 2680v3 has Cinebench15 as 3000 whereas i7 5960x has only 1400 (hwbot, cpuboss).

This mean can the dual 2680v3 with max.turbo outperform 2x 5960x machines?

if the rendering performance with 2x 5960x is greater than dual xeon i need to go for i7s as im focused only on rendering speed. please suggest me which one to choose.also those have rendering experience with the configs please give me suggestion.

Well, I don't think you can use two I7 5960x's in one system.

i should mention clearly. it is two separate i7 machines(5960x) vs one machine with dual xeon setup(2x E5-2680v3).

If you are just chain-rendering videos, the dual xeon rig would be much faster than two I7 5960x pc's. However, if you're also editing and doing other work, I'd opt for two I7 rigs, so you have one t work on while the other one is busy.
If you create the projects elsewhere anyway, though, or even get them from others, dual xeons are the way to go.

Intel disabled multi cpu on the i7s, that board is for Xeon E5-2600 v3 family of cpus.

@DubbleClick: Thanks for the suggestion. i have an old i7 for work & dual xeon needed for renderslave.

i think 12core xeon will outperform a high clock 8core 5960x though it have low clock but
what im afraid is when it comes to dualsocket, power of dual xeons may become less when compared to two i7 machines?

With decent cpu cooler we can run 5960x@4GHz for long render job.

passmark mark 36000 for two 5960xmachines whereas 26800 mark for dual xeon.
cinebench R15 multicore bench marks 1350~ for a 5960x machine whereas 3000~ for a dualsocket 2680v3.

according to passmark 10000 mark is the gap that is considerably huge.
not completely believing passmarkbench but im eager to know whether the xeons at dualmode not properly intercommunicated?
im curious how these are performing in rendering with vray or maxwell

I'd guess that the xeons would outperform two I7's in that, but can't be absolutely sure. When 18k is the score for one I7, I'd say the score of one xeon should be around 26k. It appears the passmark result only reflects one and not two xeons. However, you might double check the software you use is able to distribute load to two physical processors. I'm not as much into professional rendering as if I could give you first hand experience, sorry. I wouldn't have the money for an I7 5960x, let alone two or even xeons, haha.

defenitely gamers hate both.

Workstation builders have 1st preference to this one whereas benchmark promos preaching 2687Wv3 that is ~2200$ or even 2690v3 but purposely hiding the 2680v3 results.

I would like to blame TOMS HARDWARE too for them purposely avoiding 2680v3 in their benchmarks

On the passmark bench i think they were performing various other tasks than rendering like Mathematicaloperations, compressions,encryption, bla bla bla. And for the rendering marks they purposely avoiding for 2680v3:
