windows 8.1, 64 bit
4 gb ram

I have a set of MP4 files that I am trying to copy to a flash drive, which has tons of room on it. The files themselves are all under 4 gb each, and the flash drive is formatted NTFS.

I was able to copy the smaller file, which is about 240 MB.
But the bigger ones, which are about 3.5 gb each, get stuck in the middle.
the transfer speed goes down to zero, and then I get various error messages.

Usually it says error 0x800703ee: The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid.

Of course, I did not alter the volume or the file.

I thought maybe my old processor can't handle the job (pentium dual core) so I tried the same thing on a new computer with an i3 cpu, and 4 gb ram. I had the same problem. I am not trying to edit the file, just copy it, so i3 should be just fine, right?

what's up with this?

Then I split the files in half, and even so, the copying process got stuck in the middle.

the files themselves play just fine in WMP, so they don't seem to be corrupted.

and I was able to upload them to the cloud and sync them to my other PC.

Solution
Sounds like the drive might be bad. Do a format of it (NOT a quick format) that will force it to check for errors and repair them if at all possible.

Let me Know but if it is happening on more than one computer then it is either the files or the flash drive. If it is different flash drives and different computers then something has to be wrong with the files.

Can you copy them around on the HDD they are on now?

I just copied it from my HDD to my SDD without problem, but your first suggestion seems to be on the right track. The full format was unable to complete successfully.
I will pull out yet another flash drive, and try copying from my SSD (my main drive) to the new flash drive. If you don't hear from me again, so thanks!!

Sounds good glad to help
