It's a fresh windows 7 installation for the r9 280x which arrived this morning. After installation everything was fine for an hour until I installed some games, went downstairs to make coffe, and came back to this:

It's a vid from safe mode. Normal mode corruption is like sand and is so bad that nothing can be distinguished on the screen.

Any ideas at all what is happening? Is the card shot?

If you're getting issues during POST or in Safe Mode it's pretty well nailed the problem as being hardware because no high level drivers are loaded, all I can now suggest is that you try the R9 280X in another system, but it looks like your new card has died-it's not unknown-new stuff tends to die early, typically within a few hours, or it lasts for ages.

Here's a gfycat link. Didn't realize that site would be nasty.

This card only has 1 output. I've swapped back to my old gtx560 and everything's fine.
Yes, it is weird. Couldn't find anything similar on the forums.

Thank you for taking time to look at the problem and reply. I was really uncertain as it's the first time new hardware dies on me, and I've put together so many computers so far. I guess it had to happen at some point.
