My ASUS R9 270x has been falling behind recently trying to play some of the more recent titles that have come out for PC. I intend to upgrade coming this summer, and the one main card i have on my mind is the GTX 780 Ti. However, some of my friends have purchased a GTX 970 and are very pleased with it. Also, there is also the R9 290x- I've never strayed away from AMD/Radeon cards, but i wouldn't really mind making the "jump" to GTX/Nvidea.

My Price Range is in the area of those cards: 300-400$, with about 50 dollars worth of wiggle room.

My current setup has (besides 270x) an AMD Phenom II x4 965 CPU, 8 GB of Memory, ASUS M5A 78L-M LX Plus Motherboard, and a 750w Rosewill Capstone PSU.
In looking for a card that will work well with the PSU, and will not be bottle-necked by my CPU.
(I will not be running any form of SLI/CF due to my MB only having one card slot.)

Solution
I have the 780 ti and, even though it has enough processing power, the 3GB of VRAM holds is back sometimes. The 970's processing power is slightly lower than the 780 ti, but it gives you another 500 MB of full speed VRAM and another 500 MB of surplus VRAM. The Nvidia only card faster and reasonably priced is the 980, but I would suggest either the 970 or R9 290x given your budget. My recommendation is the 970.
