Hey guys here's the deal,
I currently have the G3258 with a R9 270X both overclocked.
I just recently was gifted a used i5 2400.
My question is are the 2 extra cores worth me swapping out CPU's? I know the i5 was released in 2011 which makes it 2 years older, and it isn't the unlocked version. I do pretty much everything on my computer, but It was originally built as a start up rig for streaming games. (Which I know more cores would really help out with that) But would it make a good difference on its own If I wasn't streaming? Thanks for any feedback.

^this.
But yes it would be faster overall. You can also overclock the i5 2400 a little, you can get 3.6ghz on all 4 cores or 3.8 with 2 cores loaded up as thats its maximum turbo bin (you can also change bclk to get a bit more but this is not always stable). So imo it would be worth finding a cheap motherboard for it that supports turbo overclocking. Or alternatively sell both your cpu's on ebay and you would probably have a good start on being able to afford a newer haswell i5.

Admirable
Only way to find out is to test it.But games like ACU,BF3,BF4,FC4,Dragon Age I i think i5 will be better option.G3258 heavily OC performs like i3 so with 4 real cores from i5 2400 i think you will see better performance.
