Hello, everybody
I need to build a custom computer mainly for After Effects, and the ocasional video editing and photoshop/illustrator design.

I guess i should first share the specs i'm thinking of, and then give you the background, so:

processor: AMD FX-9590
cooler: Zalman CNPS80F
motherboard: ASRock 970 Performance ATX AM3+
memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series
storage:
OCZ ARC 100 240GB 2.5" SSD
+
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
video: Sapphire Radeon R9 280 3GB Dual-X
case: Cooler Master K280 ATX Mid Tower Case
power: NOX Hummer 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX

I have two things that are holding me back, though.
Firstly I don't really know much about components, hardware and stuff.
Then, I have a tight budget (tighter than any i found in such forums) of about 1000€ (I blame the Portuguese government, economy and :D )
With these components I maxed out my budget, but i think i should check with you guys if you had any suggestions or "corrections".
By the way, I read i won't need a sound card, is that correct (hope so).

Thank you all for your help!

Hi, i will post a list of recommended parts from PCParticker Spain (because it's also in euros). The FX-9000 are not so good because they need excessive power, so you can't use any motherboard, you need one from a tiny list of mobos that support that power demand.

So this is what i recommend:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD FX-8370 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor (€191.79 @ Amazon Espana)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 240M 86.2 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (€87.96 @ Amazon Espana)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (€136.00 @ Amazon Espana)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (€125.14 @ Amazon Espana)
Storage: Kingston Fury 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€109.92 @ Amazon Espana)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (€54.95 @ Amazon Espana)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 1GB Video Card (€113.00 @ Amazon Espana)
Case: NZXT Source 220 ATX Mid Tower Case (€60.70 @ Amazon Espana)
Power Supply: Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply (€81.14 @ Amazon Espana)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-14 DVD/CD Writer (€14.20 @ Amazon Espana)
Total: €974.80

First things first:
Wow! Thanks! I really appreciate all the effort you had to help me, with going through pcpartpicker and all.

After considering somethings you said, and researching some more online, i made a new custom build, stretching my budget to 1200€

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor (€338.14 @ Amazon Espana)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120V 86.2 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (€39.95 @ Amazon Espana)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (€90.00 @ Amazon Espana)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (€250.83 @ Amazon Espana)
Storage: OCZ ARC 100 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€112.93 @ Amazon Espana)

Some considerations:
I thought 8-core processor was key, so went for the "looking for the cheapest highest number" approach, but after considering what you said, i did some research and found the i7 to be considered preferable, and i'd like to know if the extra bucks are worth it.

At work i deal with a 32Gb memory computer, used to deal with a 16Gb one, and really could tell the difference, so if I'm spending, might as well get one (once again reminding; i am aware that i could be wrong);

the storage I only kept the ocz because there's a store nearby where i get it for 80€

The video card I'm inclined for a 2GB one, and i must ask you why did you suggest a 1GB one, is it enough?

As for the rest i just went with the cheapest power, case and cooler i could find.

thanks again :D

Well, 1 GB of VRAM is enough for the GTX 750, because is entry level. It will never fill the memory pool because it doesn't have the horsepower to do it.

In the GTX 760 case, it does have the HP, so having a bigger VRAM pool is a necessity.

Now, with a bigger budget i definitively would have suggested a intel build. You should change the PSU you chose, it's very low end and 500W is quite low for the hardware you chose. That's dangerous.

The PSU is one of the most important parts of a build (i learned that in the bad way). If it's not good enough i can kill many of your components or all your system, i must be able to resist voltage variances from the wall, etc.
