Alright, so I have been getting some pump rattle from my H100i, and to try and eliminate the problem I decided to unplug the 2 120mm fans on the radiator (which are currently stealing power from the pump) and put them on my NZXT phantom full tower top fan controller. I was planning on connecting them to where the 2 original top 200mm were connected, but after cutting the zip ties and making sure the cables could reach each other I realized that the fan controller only supports 3 pin fans.
I was wondering if someone could clear this up for me. I understand that 3 pin and 4 pin are backwards compatible, and that the 4th pin is for pwm speed, but don't really understand what that is. I tried googling it but of course they have to over complicate things. Some people were saying that the 4th pin controls the fan speed, and without it the fan either runs at its lowest or highest speed.......but wouldn't that kind of ruin the point of my fan controller?? It clearly works, and does a fine job at speeding up and slowing down my fans. Also, The NZXT 3 pin connectors are closed off, and I am unable to connect a 4 pin into it, can i just cut off the sides so the 4 pin can fit?
Much help is needed
Thanks,
- Nick
