Hey guys I really needed your help one this one. I'm planning to build my 4k gaming rig this May and I'm confused between the cpu I should choose. My choice would be the i7 4790k. Would that cpu be good enough? I'll be pairing my cpu with the gtx 980. Would the cpu be a bottleneck? I do not wish to upgrade for at least two years after building my rig.

Solution
The i7 4790K is a great choice for your needs.
The only way to go higher in performance would be to go with the X99 socket, meaning more expensive CPU, X99 mobo (Z97 is not compatible), and DDR4 (slightly faster, much more expensive).

So go ahead with your i7 4790k, unless you have a big budget for a CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade.

@Pr3di Thanks for your answer. The X99 configuration is just going above my budget so I'll be sticking with the Z97. Thanks I'll go with the 4790k I just needed to know whether the cpu would be a bottleneck a few years down the line.

Well, there`s no way to say what might be a bottleneck in the future - depending on how games and applications will evolve.
With this being said, right now, the i7 4790k and GTX 980 is about the strongest combination you can get right now on a Z97 (sure, there`s Titans and dual GPU cards, but that`s kinda expensive).
