I noticed that in my computer my 2nd gpu was in an 8x slot instead of a 16x slot. I have the two cards SLIed and this (from what i understand) causes both cards to run in an 8x setting. So I tried to move my second card to my available 16x slot and when i restarted my machine I could not get a display on my screens on a normal start up. During a safe mode start I received a signal and was able to try re-installing the graphic driver thinking there may be some argument with the drivers since windows tries to install its own driver when using a different PCI-e slot. I am able to move my card back to the old 8x slot and everything works normally. I am would appreciate some input on what may be happening and/or what I may be able to do so I can move my 2nd card to the 16x. Thank you.

Unless you have a 2011 socket motherboard you can't run 16X16 anyhow so move it back. All your going to get is 8X8 unless you have one of the very few boards that trick the CPU.

Of course you're right. I'm running an Asus Rampage V Extreme motherboard with the intel x99 chipset and LGA 2011-v3 socket. The graphics cards are EVGA GTX 980 cards.
