different sizes as far as i know, but what do you need the plastic cover for?
I bought a used motherboard and when it arrived, the CPU socket had been sealed with a folded piece of bubble-wrap under considerable pressure. When the bubble-wrap was removed, I saw a small number of CPU socket pins were bent from this messy and unprofessional socket covering technique.
Now, as you probably know, not all socket pins are actually used for every CPU and motherboard combination, so there was a possiblity that the mobo would still work even with the bent pins, so it was worth trying. It failed.
The system wouldn't turn on, and the only reason I could think of to explain this weird behavior was that one or more of those bent pins were the cause.
The Amazon marketplace seller I bought it from absolutely
refuses to believe that there could be
anything wrong with his infinitely "perfect" motherboard, so he's blaming ME for the problem! But once he finally agrees to accept the return, I'd better damn well have a proper fitting CPU socket cap in place or when it arrives he'll continue to blame
me for the bent pins.
That's why I need the correct cap, and since you and Saberus have pointed out that I need one specifically for a 775 socket, I'm extremely glad that I posted my question rather than risk using the wrong one. I have a 775 socket cover on order from eBay...
Thanks for your help!
