How much would my amd cpu bottleneck my new gpu

Hey guys I have one question.
I have an amd athlon (tm) x4 740 3.20 ghz quad core cpu running with an amd´s 7750 gpu 1gb gddr5...
Now I am planing to get a new graphics card (gtx 970 or r9 280x) and I know that my cpu will be a bottleneck, but how big? how much would my cpu hold back my new gpu

fairly big, its a old CPU, and its only quad core (4 AMD cores). you should really get a platform change, or an upgrade to the athlon 860k. with the 860k the bottleneck will be smaller, and you can still afford a pretty nice GPU:

If you actually read the lists, you can see that I suggested a FX6300 with a r9 280. NOT a GTX 970. with that kind for GPU, it should be enough.

280X. not 280. theres a difference between those two. those are not like the 270 and the 270x. the 270x is just an overclocked 270. the 280 has locked cores, and the 280x has a fully enabled GPU. for a 280, a FX 6300 should be fine.
