If there ever a good reason to get 32GB of RAM?

I'm considering an i7-4790K with the ASUS MAXIMUS HERO VII motherboard.

I'm thinking at least 16 Gb of RAM and wonder whether going with 32 Gb is just a waste of money.

When would one benefit from having 32 Gb of RAM?

I don't do video editing or anything like that. Not even playing games right now. But if I get 32 Gb now, I'm assured of compatibility, whereas doing an upgrade in the future doesn't necessarily match up.

I'm also wondering about Windows 10.

Yes, though it will depend on what you do and how you do it, I typically will exceed 24GB during the course of a day, as do many of my clients...In general in you multi-task a lot, use large data sets (i.e. video for an example), run VMs, etc it can really be useful (and you'll love the Hero, mine in sig)
