so I built a new computer and I have everything installed right, when I try to install windows via flash drive (don't have a optical drive) I get to the "select hard drive" and it only showing 128GB and it wont let me partition it.

I have a
ASrock Z97 extreme 4 1150chipset
Intel I5 4460
8GB gskill ram
trying to install windows 7 64 bit

Seagate barracuda 3.5in 1TB 6Gb/s internal HD 7200RPM 64MB Chache

I even tried to plug it in (usb to sata) to my laptop but it doesn't show up at all.

Solution
might be the hardrive is malfunctioning meaning you probably got ripped off and they sent you a bad product return it since it also didn't work on your laptop
Welcome to the community, Nindoz!

The SATA-to-USB cable might not have worked because the HDD is a 3.5" drive. You'd need an additional power supply to get it detected via USB or a dock station. I'd suggest to try the HDD in another computer internally and swap the SATA and power cables as well, because the fault might be in one of them.
If it eventually gets detected, I recommend using your manufacturer's diagnostic utility to test the drive's health and SMART status.
If any errors pop up, you should definitely contact their tech support and ask for RMA and replacement of your product.

Hope this was helpful! Good luck! :)

It's really a pity you couldn't install the Windows OS using a DVD that contains the installation files rather than a flash drive. Time & time again we've encountered users who had problems of one sort or another with the installation process or subsequent problems with the OS that were subsequently resolved after using the DVD installation media. But obviously you had no choice.

Anyway - and this is a long shot - check your BIOS/UEFI to ensure the SATA controller is set to AHCI and not IDE. I realize this should be the default and I wouldn't imagine you would have changed that setting, but check it out anyway. There have been some rare cases experienced that when the HDD controller was set to IDE the system would recognize only 128 GB disk-capacity of the installed HDD. I wouldn't imagine it would affect your modern ASRock Extreme 4 motherboard but it's simple enough to check out.

thsnk you guys, It turns out it was a faulty hard drive. we plugged it into another desktop the computer would know its there and would see that it was a 1TB HD but that was it. there were no options to do anything to it. I even got a hold of a few computer science majors with a masters degree, who's job was figuring things like this out.. he was even baffled. but yeah I'm returning it. but yeah, thanks.
BTW I got it from Directron.com they seemed like a reliable site since it was listed on pcpartpicker.
