Hi. I built my first PC ever and it worked fine for a few hours, I installed Windows 8.1, installed nvidia drivers and downloaded a few games on Steam etc. Before I started playing anything, I was just googling something and then suddenly I got a black screen.
The only thing I managed to do to be able to see anything was to plug the HDMI not into the GPU but to the mobo.
I put the card into another PCI-E slot, it didn't work. The fans and lights work. The only 'GPU' I see in the Windows Device Manager is the Intel one integrated into my mobo.
I have 550W PSU. I can't install drivers because it tells me that I don't have an appriopiate device.
So what the hell? Could this new Gigabybte GTX 970 just break after a few hours? I'm pretty sure it wasn't hot or anything.
Oh yeah, I also formatted everything (reset the system). This did nothing.
And my PCI-E cables (8 pin and 6 pin) are both plugged in
I'm very sad cause it worked so nicely for an hour or so and then stopped...
The fans and the blue light still work! Does it mean that the hardware is ok?
I also don't understand something - it doesn't matter if I change the Primary Something from Onboard to PCI-E. The system still works and I don't see the GPU in device manager either way. (I repeat: I'm connected to motherboard right now. I see nothing if I'm connected to GPU).
My mobo is ASUS Rock H81M.
Any ideas? I'd be so so grateful! We have Easter Break here and I'd love to be able to play.
Cheers!
