I have two identical Sony Vaio's; one with a fried motherboard. Do I just swap hard drives? is it as simple as that?

I know it is password protected, but I do know the password. How would I know if it is locked to the Motherboard?

You might see something in the bios about harddrive password or ata security. If not it might just be a system/bios password protection.
Many SED drives can be moved as long as you know the password. Theres a few odd solutions that use a chip integrated in between the drive and the sata controller that might be a problem.
