computer won't start after adding new RAM

I have a Gigabyte H97M-D3H motherboard with 2x 4gb of RAM (Corsair vengeance DDR3 1600 - CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9). Motherboard and memory are working OK (using Windows 7 Ultimate)

I bought another exact pair of memory modules. After installing them, my computer won't start. The screen is completely black (I can't even get to the BIOS settings).

I removed the new memory and the computer is back to normal.

Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

Yeah do that. If it works u have 2 working memory kits. U can also try resetting bios when u install all 4 modules and if it's still not working use only one pair on the slots that were unused before adding the 2nd kit, maybe u have a problem with the initially unused channel slots of the motherboard.

Thanks for the advice.

Tried the following -

1. replace current memory modules with new ones (same slots) - works (new memory is OK!)
2. install new memory in the two other slots - works! (all slots are OK!)
3. install all four memory modules at the same time - still not working :-(

Anything I should manually change in the BIOS? according to Gigabyte manual - the new memory modules should be automatically detected.

Nope..there's no risk involved. In the bottom right corner of the motherboard u have 2 pins with CLR_CMOS written above. Make sure ur computer is shut down and UNPLUG THE POWER CABLE FROM THE POWER OUTLET. Then just put a jumper from an old ide hdd on them and leave it for at least 10 seconds, then remove it. If u don't have a jumper u can short-circuit with a screwdriver, just make sure ur screwdriver touches the both pins for at least 10 consecutive seconds. This operation just resets the CMOS values to factory default. At first boot after clearing cmos enter bios and select load optimized defaults. U can find this CLR_CMOS instructions at page 17 of ur motherboard manual, paragraph 14.

If nothing after clearing CMOS start with one pair of sticks go into BIOS and raise the DRAM voltage to 1.6, save exit and shutdown, add 2nd pair and give it a try. If no joy we can try raising the MC voltage, may be that you just have two sets that don't want to play, happens all the time. It's not a good idea to mix sets of DRAM
