Hello all,

I have a fairly good (for my uses) system that I built back in 2012 and have been steadily upgrading since.

It is based on an ASRock P67 Extreme4 motherboard and the i7 2600K Sandy Bridge CPU (that was running a 4000mhz overclock).

Recently, when checking for issues as a result of an increase in BSOD, I noticed that the socket pins on the MOBO were bent. I suspect this is what is causing the issues as everything else checks out (ram, psu, etc.). The computer followed me from Canada to the Uk, so may have been injured in the process and only now showing symptoms.

I'm trying to find a good replacement Mobo that will take the CPU I have and the Corsair Vengeance Dimms as well.

A lot of the Mobos that support the CPU seem to no longer be sold/available.

Any thoughts to the best I can get right now in terms of Mobo for this setup, that is actually purchasable as new - if its forward up-gradable even better.

Thanks

Thanks for the response - I saw that amazon listing, but unfortunately it shows out of stock (temporarily at least).

It's hard finding a place I can actually buy a compatible board; would've thought that some would still be kicking around somewhere.

Is there perhaps any of the newer boards that would work with that CPU that I could get?

Thanks All,

Yes, MisterSprinkles, I agree with you generally, but my system has basically become unworkable and BSODs within 5-10 minutes of boot. It's gotten progressively worse.

So while I would prefer to wait until the next gen CPUs are out, I need a PC now, so the Z77 Extreme4 from newegg with some 20 quid in customs duties it will have to be.

Thanks all for the answers!

ARGH

Sorry to rehash this topic. I received the new MOBO; installed everything. Turned it on and Code Error 55, which was what I was getting quite often with the old Mobo.

Code error 55 is a memory error based on the debug codes in the manual. Is it possible all four of my Corsair Vengeance sticks are bad? I tried both sets (they are 2 sets of 4GB) on their own and even if the computer goes past POST, it hard locks at some point soon after.

So it wasn't the bent pin on the mobo. I wonder if its the CPU.....

Any idea as to how to try to isolate what the problem is? I don't mind getting new RAM or new CPU, but want to make sure it's the right solution to the problem.

Update: I removed the RAM again and inserted only 2 of the 4 DIMMS into slots A2 and B2 (per the Z77 instruction note). System seemed to boot up fine.

Inserted the next 2 DIMMS into A1 and B1. System seemed to run fine.

Reintroduced Overclock of the i7 2600K to 4,000mhz with a voltage of 1.21V; System seems to run fine.

I don't get it.

Will keep monitoring it. By the way the RAM is at 1.5V, the recommended voltage for the Vengeance Corsair DIMMs I have.

Another update.

Everything worked fine last night. Turned on system this morning and error 55 and computer can't boot.

So there is obviously something more afoot here.

Cpu or memory. Not sure what to try first. Memory is cheaper but something tells me it's the CPU.
