16 gb RAM?

I am planning on upgrading my ram in the future, as I only have some generic 2 sticks of 4gb ddr3 sdram(dont even know the company or the clock speed) and i was thinking of buying 2 sticks of 4gb hyperx savage. First off if I used my old ram with the savage (of course using dual channel specific to the same make of ram) and using the old ram with it, would there be much conflict with the slower older and faster newer ram? But should I just sell my old ram on ebay for like 50 60 bucks? I will be gaming, and i know that anything over really 6gb is not needed past gaming, but i will have an 8 core cpu and people say the more cores the more ram. What do you guys think? Thanks so much!

I would recommend that if you have 4 slots on the motherboard then buy 2 more 4GB stick with the same frequency and attach them to the motherboard (the company does not matter). Also You honestly dont need 16GB RAM at the moment you wil get better windows performance with an SSD rather than by adding more RAM.
