I have got a list of parts to be build by myself, and I was wondering what PSU to go for - either 750W or 850W.

Graphics Card: MSI NVIDIA GTX 970
Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming AMD AM3 GBE LAN ATX Motherboard
RAM: HyperX FURY 8GB DDR3 @ 1866MHz
CPU: AMD FX 8350 Black Edition
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (120mm)
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Pearl Computer Case
DVD Writer: Samsung 24x Retail SATA DVD Writer
Storage: WD 1TB 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive
Wi-Fi card: TP-LINK TL-WN781ND 150mbps PCI-Express Adapter

PSU: Corsair Builder Series Semi-Modular 80 PLUS Bronze PSU (either 750W or 850W)

Solution

The GPU rating for wattage on the box is taking into consideration you have a normal system and is trying to include the total system wattage. The 500W in this case is for the total system minimum recommended so as you don't starve anything. so a 550-650 is what I would recommend...

Really you don't need 750 or 850 if you don't want it. But, if that is the range you want to buy in then I recommend Corsair AX, HX, GS, or RM series. Seasonic, Antec, and EVGA also make some good ones. If the PC will be running all the time then look for a Gold, platinum, or titanium 80+ plus rating. If you will be turning it off on a regular, then at least 80+ bronze will be sufficient.

I'm going to keep with the 150mbps Wi-Fi card because my internet is 0.5 mbps. What about this cooler?

I'm not going to be running any graphics cards in SLI/Crossfire. I won't overclock the GPU or CPU because I'd rather have longer-lasting parts than faster ones.

The CPU is 125W and the GPU is 500W, so surely I need a 750W PSU? Maybe this one?

Hmmm, on that board the second slot does appear to be x8; I thought only ASRock was doing that.... Learn something new every day.
Their compatibility list doesn't include the FX-9 series though. It does look like it's got decent VRMs, but maybe not for 220W chips.

The 500W in this case is for the total system minimum recommended so as you don't starve anything. so a 550-650 is what I would recommend normally to have a good amount of head room if you wanted to overclock. But, being as you won't then you could go with a bit lower. Go for the higher ratings though.

OK thanks, so I'll go with the 650W PSU from EVGA. Thanks a lot! :D
