I want to build a new gaming pc sometime in june, and I know that the AMD cards will launch at computex, so its right around my build date.
Now, for now I plan on getting a GTX 970, but since the 300 series is right around the corner, I started looking around the internet for some information, but I do still have some questions:
1. from what we know now, will the 380/380x be a rebadge of the r9 290 series?
2. what will it (aproximately) cost?
3. what will it perform in comparison to the 970?
4. is it going to be a furnace like the r9 280/290 series (a.k.a will it take a ton of power and will generate a-lot of heat)?

Hello adavid :)

I cant answer all your questions but I'll try.
For starters here is R9 380(X) specs:

Fiji XT (R9 390X/380X)

CUDA/GCN Cores: 4096
Memory Capacity: 4GB HBM (Stacked memory :D :D :D :D)
Memory Clock Speed: 1.25Ghz
Memory Bandwidth: 640GB/s
Boost Clock Speed: ~1Ghz

R9 300 series cards will go up against GTX 980 Ti so price is probably 400-700 <--- hard to say :(

Rumors go that the 380X will be 20% stronger than the 980, and then the 390X will be 50%+ stronger than the 980.

I think It might still get very hot, but who know what AMD comes up with. 970 is still a bang for your buck. You will need to wait for R9 300 series to launch and you probably have to be ready to pay...

But the choice is yours. I would say that stay in your pant and wait for the 300 series to launch and then see what you want to do :)
