Computer turns off immediately after I turn it on

I press my power button, it turns on, lights go on, fans spin, then it turns off. It never turns off while it's already all booted up though. I had this problem since I switched out my motherboard and cpu, but after a while it stopped. Now I put in an optical disc drive, and the problem came back. And it's worse now, I have to turn on my pc allot of times before it will boot up properly, while before it only took 2 or 3 presses of the button. I do have a cheap power supply, retail plus 700watt. I would assume this is the problem, but I just want to make sure there isn't something else that is causing this.

Oh yeah I put in all the screws, why would that matter though?

Uhh I think there were some circular things I put the screws through, they had points coming out the edge of them. I think they were attached to the case or mb... or I think the pointy circles were attached to the screws themselves.

just found this:

These are stand offs? Aren't these what vga plugs screw into? If these are what I need, then no, I don't think I have them. How would I install those with the mb though?

What do you mean by "i am screwed"? Will my computer stop working soon? And if I shorted my board, how is my computer working at all?

Yeah I'm using it now. It just turns off after I turn it on, so I have to turn it on a few times until it stays on. Maybe my case already had stand offs? The problem did get worse when I added an optical drive, so maybe I did install the stand offs.

This thread is old, but I finally took apart my pc to put in a new psu and hdd, and where each screw for the mb goes, in my case, there is an extrusion with a hole in it for the screw. And there is one gold coloured .. thing that is in my case, and it goes through a hole in the mb.

Would these extrusions work as standoffs?

Here's a pic of one:

You might not be able to tell but it's about a cm up off the case.

Oh and the platform that my mb goes on, it is raised up off the case as well. I dropped a screw under this platform, so it's stuck in between the case and the platform, it would be safe to leave it there, right?
