If it's a shutdown and not BSODs, it actually sounds like the power supply could very well be causing the problems. There are overdraw circuits that will shut power to the computer if there is an over-current situation, but it could be other items as well in the unit that may just be flaking out.

That would be my first thing to check/replace, and hope that the GPU wasn't damaged. The GPU fans not operating could be because the PSU 12V rail powering the card has actually failed and is no longer providing enough current for the card. (That's the best case)

Is this a pre-built computer? If so, what's the make/model?
If not, what PSU do you have (size if you know nothing else), and what CPU/GPU setup do you have. (models, overclocking, etc. (It could be that the PSU was close to max normal load for a long time and it's components are starting to wear.)

(Other components, except the CPU in some cases, would cause BSOD, but bad power will cause shutdowns)

PS: Just a thought - Is your computer on a UPS or Line conditioner? There could have been something that came in from the wall and wasn't caught. (Not all spikes trip circuit breakers)

UPS = Uninterruptible Power Supply - Essentially a battery backup with a built in line filter, low voltage protector (cause it goes directly to battery) and surge protector.

The RM650 should have no issues with the max load of your rig. Not knowing much about your particular PSU, I looked specifically at the negative reviews for it on Amazon. I also looked at many of the other 'frequent shutdown' threads on Tom's.

Though there are a lot of positive reviews, there is a significant number of negative reviews saying that the PSU crapped out, caused frequent shutdowns and/or had other issues that, in some cases, damaged their components, specifically the GPU.

If you have a spare PSU about even from another PC that can have some downtime, which most people don't but I gotta say it, swap the power supplies out and see what happens. It's now a case of trial and error at this point if you have the spares.

If that's not an option, contact Corsair, you may want to do that anyway. They may not like it, but their PSUs are under at least a 3yr warranty, and this one is 5yr. It should be a good unit, but, s[p]it happens.

(Other threads here also include MB issues, but unless it's a cracked MB, which is honestly pretty hard to do, there is usually a BSOD.)

Disclaimer: I am not a hardware technician, I've just built a bunch of machine through the years. (Had memory issues once, and one case of bad video drivers, once, with early Vista.)

Well, i swapped the PSU with my old one, and also my GPU since the old PSU which is a nox urano 600w sucks and wont handle my gpu... I thought that was the problem after 1 hour or so of not shutting down, until it did... I checked my event log and see nothing suspicious (i think) with the exception of this error: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the AMD External Events Utility service. Also i have this: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. which is what's happening all the time

I'm sorry, I cant go any farther than this. My experiences pointed one way, but you have something I haven't seen yet.

In all honesty. good luck. I hope you find a solution quickly. (And that you let us know what that solution was, since some of use are amateurs but love DIY PCs..)

So i've been trying out for the last few days my Older PSU which is a NOX urano 600w (yeah i know its crap) with my r9 280x which i thought wouldn't be possible and it was all going fine until today, when i was playing ESO for about 30 minutes and had chrome and such open in the background and my PC restarted again... I went on event viewer and no error popped up... Any ideas ?
