Hello friends,

  • I have an AMD Fx 9590 and a asus crosshair v formula-z board. Stock it is clocked at 4.7Ghz, but it was having stability issues, so using AMD overdrive, I underclocked it to 4.2 ghz and it works fine now.

  • Unfortunately, AMD overdrive is interfering with AERO and Adobe flash player, so I want to permanently set 4.2 Ghz in bios, but I don't know where is the option to do that in the board.
Can anyone tell me how I can set the multiplier in the motherboard mentioned above. Thanks a lot.

Solution
You need better cooling the H60 won't cool a 9590.

At minimum a H100i , custom loop is usually the best option.

Your choices for the 9000 series:

Asrock 970 Performance
ASRock 990FX Extreme9
ASRock 990FX Extreme6
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R4.0\5.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
MSI 990FXA-GD80V2

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 1000W power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling or full system liquid cooling.

I have Corsair H60 water cooler.. I checked the temperatures, they are always normal. And what I experience is random freezing, even if the computer is just left ON, nothing happening, and suddenly everything freezes. Only setting it to 4.2 has solved this problem for me.

You need AT LEAST a 240 mm all in one closed loop cooler. And for they person who recommended a Hyper 212 EVO. Please don't try giving advice in areas that you have no expertise. The Hyper 212 EVO can dissipate the heat from about a 120 watt cpu max. The 9590 is 220 watts.

You have the best motherboard you can get for AMD+ cpu's. It has the famed ROG BIOS with a million overclocking tweaks. You really should learn how to use the BIOS. And buy a real cpu cooler. Great motherboard, great but hot running cpu. Having a toy cpu cooler is a massive fail. I hope you have a nice case with plenty of intake and exhaust fans.

Do you even know what your core temp and socket temps are at full load? And what the max recommended temps are for the both of them?

Sorry dude. I forgot about those 9 series chips being crazy hot.

Well, when I have money I will change it to Hyper 212 Evo...but right now I must tune down the multiplier. If anyone knows, let me know.

I could not find the option, thus the question in thread. Can you also recommend me a cooler while you are at it.

Do NOT get the hyper 212 evo. I completely forgot about the 220w draw.

Have you actually checked your temperatures (with coretemp or similar program)? I find it hard to believe the H60 cant keep it cool. I use a H55 on my GTX 680 overclocked with a much higher power target so is drawing around 250w and it keeps it cool no problem.

I say check your temps before you go and spend money when the cause of your instability may be something else, like needinga little more voltage to the CPU or NB, or adjusting ram speed/voltage.

The 9590 is a 220 watt cpu and throws off an incredible amount of heat. AMD recommends a 240 mm AIO cooler.

You guys keep spamming that, but he hasn't even shown us temperatures. Honestly, you guys should be asking for the details than just blaming the cooling without knowing the fact.s

Yes the 9590 is a hot chip, but i have seen 8350 clocked to the same speeds with lesser coolers do just fine, and that will be drawing the same power.
