So I recently got an upgrade on my computer and installed a asrock 970 performance and it hasn't worked correctly yet. I start up the computer and it randomly resets itself. After much testing and failure I found out that if you tap the back of the case it resets. Could this be from a bad board or case? I haven't got a clue. It also resets at random times that do not seem to follow a pattern. I have rebuilt the system 3 times just in case it was building error.

Specs:
AMD FX-9590
ASROCK 970 Performance
AMD R9 270X
Sabertooth 2TB HHD
Corsair 750W modular
Thermal take Level 10 GT

Please Help.

I thought that too but it is caused by a reasonable tap on the back of the case, could it be the fans creating static and the case isn't properly grounded? The motherboard was install with standoffs by the way.

If you have a piece of wire or and old cord lying around, attach it to the case, via a screw that touches the case metal not the paint and then to a radiator.(internal water type for heating the house, not an electrical one or to anything that's grounded. Or just attach it to a metal rod and stick it in the ground) :p

Things you might want to check: Is the battery retention spring loose? Is it something in the PSU that might be getting old and worn and thus tapping it makes it switch off then back on? Are any of the metal shields on the back I/O section bent and touching the motherboard?

Thanks for the response. I think that the I/O shield may be a real possibility. I will take it off completely and see what the result it

I took the I/O shield off and it worked for about an hour and then I got the same result. I also checked the power cables for unsnapped connectors but no luck. I am starting to think I have a defective motherboard.

There is one more thing I could think of, but it's stupid and only had any real effect on a non-grounded PC(which was later grounded), and an affectionate long haired Norwegian forest cat.

After you turn on your PC try disconnecting the On/Off cable and the Reset cable from the motherboard, mind you, this probably only worked due to an old TT case, it might not work for you.

Other than this, you may want to RMA the motherboard OR the PSU.
