well long story short i bought both the 9590 and ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ and now im having problems with freezing during odd things like watching youtube, running windows experience index, and running starcraft 2, i also had a problem with it freezing at the startup logo for windows vista home premium 64 bit

i read a few things on here that suggested it was my psu (ULTRA 650W 80+Bronze) so i went over all my wattage again and im well below.

i seen on asus site http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FX_R20/specifications/
that the bored say's it is compatible with 9590 but it only supports up to 140 W

does anyone have any ideas what would be causing this issue?

The CPU is supported:
http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FX_R20/HelpDesk_CPU/

Motherboard isn't the issue. You've a very, very poor quality PSU and you must not run your rig on it, I strongly recommend getting a 750W+ high quality PSU urgently. Your PSU can't supply stable load to your CPU which's causing the issues, booting up, watching videos, running WEI, Starcraft 2 all put some load on CPU. Change your PSU asap.

i agree it's a poor psu but it's far below my power needs, why would you suggest a higher psu?
edit:what psu would you recommend as high quality
i just looked this one up http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=97306&vpn=110-B1-0750-VR&manufacture=eVGA&promoid=1424

No it is not. FX 9590 is a monster in terms of power needs, AMD recommends water cooling solution, 1 kilowatt PSU and select high end 990FX boards as minimum requirements. 220W TDP is no joke and I won't be surprised if certain junk PSUs make fireworks when powering it. It's quite wonderful that your PSU hasn't failed yet.

Let me be clear on why it is so. Low tier PSUs use cheap capacitors which wear out quickly, especially on high loads, they're not rated for high loads at all, in first place. Hence they give out unstable power to the system thus causing instability.

thanks you this is very helpful, if you were in my place would psu would you be aiming for?
i still think i have a underlining problem with something on my setup and just looking around i see a few more people have around the same problem http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2519701/amd-9590-freezes-locks-sabertooth-990fx.html

To clear the doubts, your motherboard is great for high TDP CPUs, and isn't the problem. You have a great CPU cooler as well, RAM and GPU don't really matter.

As mentioned by Meteorsraining, your wattage has ZERO to do with it. It's almost a guarantee that your unit is incapable of delivering even it's rated wattage, and even if it could, would not be sufficient to meet the capacity requirements of that CPU and GPU combination. Ultra doesn't make good power supplies. They make crap. No offense.

ALL Ultra units are tier 5, because they've never had a model substantial enough to warrant any other ranking, since there haven't been any of their models with a positive review from any reputable testing source.

AMD introduced the socket AM3+ line of processors, codenamed Bulldozer, in late 2011 - and then updated the line with a newer core called Piledriver in 1012. They represent an architectural jump in technology from previous AMD desktop processors, and while many older AM3 motherboards can house an AM3+ processor their full potential can only be realized on a matching AM3+ motherboard.

These FX-9000 series processors use this same core design, but with its performance absolutely maxed-out. They are among the first processors to ever ship with clock speeds above 4GHz, but in order to reach these tremendous speeds they run at twice the thermal output of most other CPUs. This level of heat requires liquid-cooling, and AMD also recommends using 1000W or higher power supplies to handle the added electrical draw.

Listen to what meteors is telling you, he knows what he's about.

PSU is way to weak and poor quality. :(

Your choices for the 9590:

Asrock 970 Performance
ASRock 990FX Extreme9
ASRock 990FX Extreme6
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R4.0\5.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
MSI 990FXA-GD80V2

AMD.COM

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 1000W power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling or full system liquid cooling.

Hi guys i have the same setup as in the Sabertooth MOBO and the AMD 9590 CPU

but i have this fault:

I turn on the PSU and the Green LED on the motherboard illuminates green and stays on.

I press the on button on the case and every post state led on the motherboard illuminates for about 1/3 of a second, the fans spin for 1/3 of a second and my H100i Cooler fan light illuminates for 1/3 of a second, then everything turns off apart from the normal green power LED on the motherboard. I am then unable to do anything else to the computer. If i then press the on button on the case, nothing happens. for anything to happen i need to turn the PSU off, wait for the residual power to drain (about 4 seconds) then the light goes out, i then turn the PSU back on and then press the on button on the case and the same symptoms as above happen.

thats it thats all that happens.

I know the PSU, CPU and everything else works as i replace the new motherboard with the old one again and it all works fine.

to me it is either not enough power from the PSU to power everything or the motherboard is faulty.

somebody over at PC Specialists told me that the PSU i have will work fine but im not totally sure.

My Build:

Case InWIN MANA-136 BLACK GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU) AMD FX-9590 Eight Core Processor
Motherboard ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Memory (RAM) 8GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 2GB)
Graphics Card XFX AMD Radeon R9 280
1st Hard Disk 500GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
2nd Hard Disk 1TB Serial ATA Hard Drive
1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Power Supply 650W Corsair VS650 PSU
Processor Cooling Corsair H100i GTX Liquid Cooled
Sound Card Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Please help.

that is good news cus i was thinking that i bought a broken board.

Are you saying then that the board is fine? Im assuming that as the power indicator light illuminates. do you agree?

ok thank you guys im going to have to invest in a better PSU. I will probably go for a 1000w to future proof, but not knowing if they are good or bad, what one would you recommend with a budget of about £100
