What is the minimum recommended amount of RAM for a gaming laptop?

TLDR: Should I get more than 8GB of RAM for my next gaming laptop?

My last gaming laptop had only 4GB of RAM and it performed decently well. I had no complaints but I've seen 8GB of RAM as standard. What do you think the minimum amount of RAM for a gaming laptop should be? Is there any reason to upgrade beyond 8GB of RAM if the only activities I'll be using the laptop for is gaming, web browsing, Skype, and watching Netflix or DVDs?

8GB is fine - for the next few years anyway.

currently , id say no

maybe in 2-3 yrs they will use more than 8. so right now unless you render , 8gb is good enough And most laptops today have a capacity of 16gb atleast

8GB is enough right now. Now-a-days, 6GB minimum but recommended is 8GB. After some years (i.e. 2-3 years), 8GB will be minimum for many games.
If you want to keep your laptop for next 2-3 years and till know have budget then better to go for 10 or 12GB RAM (if supported).

It will depend on the games you play. For most games, 8 gigs is enough assuming you are playing in med settings. Anything higher than that you will need more ram.

actually , from what ii have seen , many games like Ac unity or dragon age inqui dont use more than 6.5gb on high -ultra settings

8GB is basically the entry level today, yes it's plenty for most games, but DRAM use in games is and has been growing, if looking ahead at all, I'd want more even with a laptop
